Summary:
Reporting to the Engineering Director, and under the technical supervision of an engineer, the technician is responsible for completing small to medium size projects within established budgets and schedules. He or she coordinates the assignment of drawing tasks for specific projects. He or she has experience, knowledge and skills in building electricity, integrates business knowledge and manages project priorities. He or she acts as a resource to less experienced colleagues. The technician typically works independently, prioritizes work based on specific project goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
– Supervises, develops and draws up, in collaboration with the engineers, the engineering documents, plans, specifications, addendums required for the realization of building projects, medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems, motor controls and protections, fire alarms, generators, ASSC and lighting systems, in accordance with established standards;
– Model the electrical design using REVIT;
– Validate the conformity of the electrical drawings according to the established standards;
– Review and annotate shop drawings under the supervision of an engineer;
– Perform interdisciplinary coordination at the drawing level;
– Estimate construction costs and quantities in accordance with standard methods and established plans and specifications;
– Develop tables, lists, calculations and estimates;
– Perform various simulations using specialized software;
– Carry out studies and write technical reports in collaboration with an engineer;
– Conduct surveys, inspections, reports and site supervision including coordination with contractors;
– Solve technical problems;
– Participate in the quality assurance of engineering documents in his/her discipline;
– Propose and lead continuous improvement in the preparation of drawings (standards, work methods, tools);
– Meet commitments, including deliverable dates, and promptly communicate any issues encountered to the project manager or immediate supervisor.
Qualifications required:
– College diploma (DEC) in electrical engineering (electrical engineering or building electricity) or equivalent;
– Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the consulting engineering field;
– Technical knowledge: medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems, motor controls and protection, fire alarms, generators, UPS and lighting systems;
– Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code and the National Building Code;
– Knowledge of mechanical systems related to electrical systems (an asset);
– Fluency in spoken and written French, bilingualism an asset;
– Possess the ASP Construction certification for the General Health and Safety Course on construction sites;
– Mastery of REVIT software;
– Knowledge of AutoCAD software;
– Good knowledge of the Office suite;
– Knowledge of ETAP and AGI32 (an asset);
– Possess a valid driver’s license.
