Job Summary

Material handlers are responsible for counting, checking, receiving and storing products from suppliers and products returned by customers. They prepare, package and ship customer orders. Attention to detail ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Duties of the position

Follow all health and safety rules and laws in the performance of duties
Load and unload trucks, operate forklift and other mechanical handling equipment

Receiving Duties:
When unloading shipments from vendors or returns from customers, obtain packing slip and compare to products received. Note any discrepancies or damaged products
Print and verify computerized receiving documents and enter products received into the computer system
Isolate special order and damaged products and place them in the reserved area
Note any discrepancies on the carrier’s bill of lading, initiate freight claims and forward documents to the teammate in charge
Tasks related to the preparation, packaging and shipping of orders
Prepare products for customer orders by counting and comparing to shipping documents
Assemble products and package appropriately for customer pick-up or shipment to the customer
Complete documentation for all shipments delivered by third party carrier or requiring dangerous goods documentation
Notify supervisor of any discrepancies in inventory, damaged, defective, unsaleable products that would affect the quality of customer service
Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the warehouse. Remove empty cartons, metal strapping, pallets and other trash. Informs the Profit Center Manager of any safety issues.
Assist teammates in serving customers at the counter.
Performs other reasonable duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or the Profit Center Manager.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Exceptional customer service and oral communication skills
Ability to acquire complete product knowledge
Ability to learn how to safely operate a forklift and other mechanical handling equipment
High level of attention to detail
Ability to learn and operate the applicable software system (Trend, Eclipse) used to process orders
Willingness to invest at least 40 hours per year in training
Average math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals
Read, write, speak and understand English or French

Education and experience

High school diploma
One year or more experience in a warehouse environment
Knowledge of products sold in the profit center preferred
