Summary:

Reporting to the Engineering Director, and under the technical supervision of a senior engineer, the engineer is responsible for completing small to medium size projects within established budgets and schedules. He or she organizes the assignment of tasks for specific projects. He or she has multiple experience, knowledge and skills, integrates business knowledge and manages functional priorities. The Engineer supervises resources assigned to technical work in his/her discipline and makes recommendations on organizational requirements for his/her projects and technical innovations, devising economical and practical solutions to mechanical engineering challenges. He or she acts as a resource person to less experienced colleagues.
The Engineer works independently, prioritizing work according to specific project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design:

  • Develops design and oversees and develops engineering documents, plans, specifications, addendums required to complete building, ventilation, automatic control, air conditioning, heating and cooling, plumbing, and fire protection projects in accordance with established standards and in coordination with other disciplines;
  • Determine construction costs and quantities in accordance with standard methods and established plans and specifications;
  • Conduct studies and prepare technical reports;
  • Solve technical problems;
  • Supervise and/or perform surveys, inspections, reports and site supervision including coordination with contractors and other disciplines;
  • Write progress reports and contribute to the development of action plans including the management of contractor extras;
  • Make recommendations for payment of completed work; – Perform design quality assurance in his/her discipline; – Review shop drawings and completion documents.
Project management:

  • Take charge of small and medium size mechanical projects;
  • Identify, analyze and validate customer needs and requests;
  • Participate in the development of service offers, including the division of projects into work packages and the evaluation of work hours required to complete the projects;
  • Develop and coordinate project plans to meet cost, schedule and quality objectives;
  • Produce control elements (minutes, progress reports, etc.) to ensure project follow-up;
  • Manage the relationship with project stakeholders and ensure their satisfaction;
  • Ensure the compliance of the work performed by the personnel involved in the projects;
  • Manage changes that may be generated by client requests, project operational needs or field or site conditions and implement the necessary actions in the event of modifications to project plans;
  • Participate in the post-mortem of projects.
Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the field of consulting engineering;
  • Technical knowledge of: ventilation systems, automatic regulation, air conditioning, heating and cooling, plumbing and fire protection;
  • Good knowledge of current codes and standards, including the National Plumbing Code, ASHRAE standards and the National Building Code;
  • Fluency in spoken and written French, bilingualism an asset;
  • Possess the ASP Construction certification for the General Health and Safety on Construction Sites course;
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency grant programs (an asset);
  • Good knowledge of the Office suite;
  • Knowledge of Autocad;
  • Knowledge of Revit MEP, HAP (an asset);
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
